Fred - ideas worth writing down on a cocktail napkin

Happenings for the Bay Area's more "festive" thinkers and doers, who realize that revelry can be equally riveting.

Meet FRED

FRED stands for Frivolity Revelry Eating and Drinking.

As you probably know, February is the time of year for the TED conference, when some of the biggest names come together to solve the world’s problems and make each other cry.

Don’t get us wrong, any snide comments about TED are born from the mild jealousy some of us feel for not being invited or not being able to set aside the budget to attend.

While we revere and respect the amazing work that comes out of TED, we thought there was a void for Bay Area thinkers and doers who realize that revelry can be as riveting as saving the world—if done right.

So we created FRED. Think of him as TED’s slightly less ambitious, very well-intentioned, and always entertaining younger brother. He might not win a Pulitzer but you’ll definitely catch him at the after-party. And he can always recommend a good restaurant or a buttery chardonnay.

FRED events take a light-hearted look at thought-provoking and world-changing topics that are more “within reach” and always the backdrop for a good time. At FRED events, it’s alright to have that second glass of wine.

TEAM FRED
FRED is brought you by the festive folks at:

PR & Company – a communications strategy firm that works with for-profit and nonprofit changemakers, including social entrepreneurs, socially responsible businesses, nonprofits and foundations. Our clients even include TED presenters and participants, and we’re glad they have a sense of humor when we do things like this.

Tajima Creative – a marketing and design agency that delivers creative marketing solutions for clients, community, and society. Even in the darkest of times, Tajima remains committed to one mission at all costs—rid the world of blah.  FRED is a key component in this fight.

Back in 2005, PR & Company and Tajima Creative co-founded The Good Business Network, a creative event series built around topics related to corporate social responsibility and social entrepreneurship. During a recent Good Business Network planning meeting, the idea of FRED was thrown out as a joke which, as it turns out, we decided to take seriously. (But not too seriously.)
